Fifteen Years of Al Fresco Wedding: What I’ve Learned, What Has Changed, and Who We Are
By Beatrice — Founder & Creative Director, Al Fresco Wedding | Luxury Destination Wedding Planner in Italy

I started Al Fresco Wedding in 2012. Not because I woke up one morning with a business plan and a vision board, but because I had spent years working as an Event Manager at one of Tuscany’s most beautiful castles — and somewhere along the way, I understood that this was where I belonged.
That castle formed me in ways I still draw on every single day. It taught me how to read a space, how to hold an entire event in my mind while simultaneously solving three problems nobody else had noticed yet, how to make the extraordinary feel effortless. It gave me the foundations. What I built on top of them is Al Fresco Wedding — today one of Italy’s most experienced destination wedding planning studios.
That was almost fifteen years ago. And I can honestly say: I have never loved this work more than I do right now.

How the Luxury Destination Wedding in Italy Has Evolved
When I started, a destination wedding in Tuscany was already a beautiful, meaningful event. Two people, their families, a breathtaking venue, exceptional food, great wine, and that incomparable Tuscan light.
Today, the luxury destination wedding in Italy is something richer, more layered, more ambitious — and I find that genuinely exciting.
Budgets have grown significantly over the years, and so has the level of creative and logistical complexity that couples expect. Couples invest more, dream bigger, and arrive with a vision that is increasingly sophisticated and precise. The destination wedding has evolved into a full editorial production — a curated weekend experience with a visual narrative, a designed flow, a distinctive aesthetic identity that is entirely their own.
And the beautiful thing? This evolution has happened in perfect parallel with my own growth as a creative director and planner. The projects I work on today are more complex, more ambitious, and frankly more rewarding than anything I could have imagined when I started. I get to collaborate with extraordinarily talented photographers, florists, chefs, and artisans across Italy to create something that feels completely singular — a world built entirely for two people and the people they love most.
Planning a luxury wedding in Italy requires not just organisation and logistics, but creative direction, design thinking, deep cultural fluency, and the ability to translate a feeling — something a couple can barely put into words — into something real, tangible, and unforgettable. Fifteen years of doing exactly this, across Tuscany and the rest of Italy, is what makes the difference. And I feel that difference every time I walk into a venue on a wedding day and watch everything fall into place.

What Nobody in the Wedding Industry Tells You
I want to be honest with you, because honesty is one of the rarest things in this industry.
There was a period when I hit a wall. Not a professional wall, but a personal one — the kind that comes from carrying an enormous weight of responsibility, silently, for years. Managing an international client base across different cultures, different expectations, different generations, different languages. Being the person who holds everything together for an event that represents one of the most important days of someone’s life.
I came out of that period with sharper instincts, clearer vision, and a deeper understanding of what Al Fresco Wedding truly is — and who it is for.
I share this not for sympathy, but because the professionals worth trusting are the ones who have been tested and have grown from it. Anyone can plan a destination wedding in Italy when everything goes smoothly. What you want — what you deserve — is someone who knows exactly what to do when it doesn’t.
And one more thing: I will not use the word passion in this article. If it was not there, I would not have lasted fifteen years. That is all that needs to be said.

Who Plans a Luxury Destination Wedding in Italy Today
The couples I work with today are not the couples I worked with in 2012. And I mean that in the best possible way.
Many of my clients are accomplished professionals — doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, creatives — people who have worked hard, built beautiful lives, and now want a celebration that reflects exactly who they are. They are not looking for a generic Italian wedding. They are looking for a luxury destination wedding experience that is intelligent, refined, deeply personal, and impeccably executed from the first email to the last dance.
They value expertise, directness, and a planner who leads the process rather than waiting to be told what to do. They want someone who thinks three steps ahead — who has already solved the problem before it becomes one.
Others are younger — sharp, visually fluent, with a precise aesthetic sense and the expectation of a partner who can move at their pace and deliver at the highest level.
Both deserve the same: a destination wedding in Italy that exceeds every expectation they arrived with.

Who Al Fresco Wedding Is — and Who We Plan For
I want to say this clearly, because I believe it matters.
Al Fresco Wedding is a luxury destination wedding planning studio with a precise identity. It is elegant without being cold. Sophisticated without being distant. Romantic without being predictable. It carries the warmth of Italy — of open air, long candlelit tables, golden evening light, the scent of cypress and ancient stone — and elevates it into something curated, intentional, and genuinely extraordinary.
We are not for everyone. And that is a deliberate choice.
We plan for couples who:

Care deeply about beauty, detail, and the full guest experience
Want a complete wedding weekend — Welcome Dinner, Wedding Day, Farewell Brunch — not just a single event
Are based internationally and need a planner they can fully trust to lead the process from a distance
Understand that a luxury destination wedding in Italy is an investment — and want every part of that investment to be felt
Are unwilling to compromise on quality, taste, or the people they work with

Our clients tend to be internationally minded, culturally curious professionals —  who choose Italy, and specifically Al Fresco Wedding, because they understand that the right experience in the right hands creates something that cannot be replicated.
If you recognise yourself in these words, you are exactly who we had in mind when we built this brand.

Destination Wedding Planning Across Italy: Beyond Tuscany
Al Fresco Wedding was born in Tuscany, and this territory will always be at the heart of what we do. After fifteen years, I know it intimately — its light, its rhythms, its hidden corners, its finest venues and most extraordinary suppliers.
But today, we design destination weddings across all of Italy — because Italy is not one country. It is many.
The Amalfi Coast carries a drama and romance that is entirely its own. Lake Como speaks of old-world European elegance. Puglia offers ancient trulli, whitewashed masserie, and a raw, sun-drenched beauty unlike anywhere else. Rome has a gravity and grandeur that no other city in the world can replicate. Sicily is timeless, layered, and endlessly surprising.
Matching a couple to the right Italian region — based on their aesthetic vision, the accessibility for their international guests, the atmosphere they want to live — is one of the most important and exciting conversations we have at the very beginning of every project.
Italy, in all its complexity and beauty, is our canvas. And after fifteen years, we know exactly how to use it.

You bring the dream. We bring fifteen years of experience, trusted relationships across Italy, and the expertise to make it real — at the highest possible level.
